During the ASSW 2024, the Marine Working Group (MWG) discussed mechanisms to advance our Strategic Plan and identify priorities for the MWG’s strategic themes, contributing to the ICARP IV process. Building on the Vienna workshop (December 2023) which focused on the theme "Marine Life", the MWG initiated a multistep process including online and in-person activities. An online workshop on May 15th will kickstart discussions on the strategic themes "Sea ice and Stratification," "Disturbances," "Biogeochemical Cycles," and "Connectivity and Borealization",  aiming to provide starting points for an in-person workshop. This two-day workshop, scheduled for June 12-13, 2024, in Bologna, Italy, will elaborate and finalize the discussions of each strategy theme, draft a detailed MWG research strategy document, and prepare the MWG contribution to ICARP IV. Senior scientists and Early Career Researchers (ECR) will participate to ensure diverse perspectives, with ECRs co-leading discussions and providing valuable contributions. The first day will summarize online activities, focusing on shaping input into concise, effective documents guiding the MWG and ICARP process. On the second day, a cooperative effort will draft a document based on the first day's discussions, with subsequent circulation for members feedback. An online meeting in September 2024 will finalize the document for submission to ICARP IV.
