It is with great sadness that I inform you that last weekend we lost a great Arctic champion. Steven Solomon, a coastal scientist at the Geological Survey of Canada, passed away early Sunday morning in Halifax after a 9 month battle against cancer. Steve was a brilliant scientist and a close friend to many of us. He was instrumental in developing Arctic coastal research within the International Arctic Science Committee, the International Permafrost Association and several other international programs.
I had the pleasure to work with Steve for many years and I will greatly miss a creative and enthusiastic scientist - and a good friend. On behalf of IASC, I extend condolences to Steve´s wife Sarah-Marie, his son Reuben and all of his family, friends and colleagues.
