The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), the Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) of the Arctic Council, the International Arctic Social Sciences Association (IASSA), the Sustaining Arctic Observing Network (SAON) in cooperation with the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) are excited to announce several fellowships this year:
- IASC Fellowship Program 2022
- SDWG-IASSA-IASC Fellowship
- SAON-IASC Fellowship
The IASC Fellowship Program 2022 is meant to engage early-career scientists in the work of the IASC Working Groups (WGs): Atmosphere, Cryosphere, Marine, Social & Human, and Terrestrial. This year, we will offer 6 IASC Fellowships in total:
- one Fellow will be chosen per IASC WG
- one IASC Indigenous Fellow: Based on recent recommendations from the IASC Action Group on Indigenous Engagement, IASC has expanded its Fellowship Program to include space specifically for Arctic early career Indigenous scholars. The IASC Indigenous Fellow can choose which IASC WG to get engaged in.
The inaugural SDWG-IASSA-IASC Fellowship is meant to encourage an early career scholar to participate in and contribute to the work of the Sustainable Development Working Group of the Arctic Council. The Fellowship will enable the recipient to get involved in the process of making research relevant for policy and contribute to policy recommendations.
The inaugural SAON-IASC Fellowship will help an early career researcher to get more involved in SAON. SAON holds a unique position in the facilitation of and planning for sustained Arctic observational networks in support of societal benefit and has initiated the Roadmap for Arctic Observing and Data Systems (ROADS) as a planning framework to support its national and organizational partners. The Fellow would engage in the evolving governance of the ROADS Advisory Panel or support alignment and integration across pilot efforts that are beginning to form thematic Expert Panels under ROADS.
The deadline for applications for all fellowships is 16 November 2021. Find out more about the Fellowships and how to apply for them on the APECS website.
An information webinar about the fellowships for those interested in applying will be organized by IASC at the end of October. The exact date and time will be announced in the coming weeks.
