Arctic Observing Summit 2020 Conference Statement
The Executive Organizing Committee for the Arctic Observing Summit (AOS) announce the release of the final AOS 2020 Conference Statement. This statement summarizes the main conclusions and call to action from the 2020 AOS that convened online, March 30-April 02.
The Arctic Observing Summit (AOS) is an international conference that aims to provide community-driven, science-based guidance for the design, implementation, coordination, and operation of a sustained (decades-long) international network of Arctic observing systems.
The 2020 AOS was the fifth Summit, following those held in Vancouver, Canada, in 2013, Helsinki, Finland in 2014, Fairbanks, USA, in 2016, and Davos, Switzerland, in 2018. Summits are structured thematically, building iteratively on previous outcomes and recommendations. In 2020, delegates focused on the theme “Observing for Action”. The following statement summarizes the main conclusions, recommendations, and call to action from the online Arctic Observing Summit 2020, March 30 – April 02, 2020. The Summit Statement is based on the summaries of the working group deliberations and was reviewed during the final plenary session of the conference. Call for Manuscript Submissions: Arctic Special IssueThe Arctic Observing Summit 2020
Editors announce a special issue of Arctic, titled “Observing for Action”. As Arctic environmental change continues unabated and at a rapid pace, sustained observations that enable us to track, understand, and project this change are essential. These observations are necessary to guide adaptation and mitigation responses from local to global scales. Click here for full details.
Manuscript Submission
For planned papers, a title and short abstract of approximately 100-200 words should be sent to the Arctic editorial office by June 15, 2020.
Authors should adhere to the submission guidelines available at https://arctic.ucalgary.ca/guide-authors
The deadline for submissions is September 01, 2020. Targeted publication date will be Spring 2021. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere, except conference proceedings papers. All manuscripts are refereed through a peer-review process.

The Arctic Observing Summit (AOS) is an international, biennial forum of scientists, managers, stakeholders, agencies, Arctic community members, and the private sector. The purpose of the AOS is to engage all sectors from local to international levels and coordinate the design, development, and implementation of a sustained, comprehensive, and iterative circumarctic observing system. The AOS is a Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON) task led by the International Study of Arctic Change (ISAC).
