Meeting Report: Atlantic Interactions

IASC President Susan Barr was invited by IASC Portugal to hold a presentation during the “Atlantic Initiative” 3rd High Level Industry-Science Government Dialogue. Praia, Cabo Verde, 7-8 May 2018. The presentation gave a brief overview of IASC, MOSAiC and T-MOSAiC with emphasis on the latter and the secretariat in Portugal. The scientific connections between the Arctic and the Atlantic regions are strong, both with regard to the oceans and the terrestrial sphere, not least in light of the current climate change. The conference was attended by an impressive number of ministers and high-level representatives of countries bordering the Atlantic, such as Brazil, Sao Tome and Principe, Angola, South Africa, Spain, the Azores, Nigeria, and of course Cabo Verde and Portugal. The President’s participation resulted in interest both in the T-MOSAiC programme and the parallels between science in the neighbouring regions of the Arctic and the Atlantic.
