This special issue of the IASC Progress highlights IASC´s major achievements over the past eight years during which it was hosted by the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) and co-financed by the German Science Foundation (DFG). After being located in Potsdam (Germany) since 2009, the IASC Secretariat will move to Akureyri (Iceland) beginning of next year. The new IASC Secretariat, under the leadership of our new IASC Executive Secretary Dr. Allen Pope, will be hosted by the Icelandic Research Council (RANNIS).
