Priorities for the future of marine and coastal research in the Arctic
Strategy Paper in Polar Science towards Arctic research in the future from the viewpoint of early and mid-career scientists from various disciplines: ART is an official network of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). The paper is a direct outcome of the 3rd International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP III), which is an international strategy process led by IASC.
Key messages:
• Arctic research in the future needs massive national and international efforts, and especially international coordination.
•Young scientists play a major role in the arctic research landscape, as provider of ideas and as leading personnel of the future.
•The hurdle between natural and social scientists needs to be overcome by transdisciplinary collaboration in order facilitate the investigation of all components in a changing Arctic. This is only way to make knowledge available, understandable and applicable for politics, stakeholders and especially for local populations in the Arctic.
