Preparations are well underway for Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2027, which will be held in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan from 11 to 20 April 2027. Progress is also being made swiftly on ISAR-9, the Ninth International Symposium on Arctic Research, during the latter part of summit week under the theme “Expanding and Connecting Arctic Research Diversity”.

As detailed below, we, ASSW2027 Local Organizing Committee, will kindly provide information that will support you as you prepare.

Call for ASSW 2027 Community Meetings and Workshops

As announced in the first circular letter, we are currently accepting session proposals for Community Meetings and Workshops. ASSW2027 will dedicate five main days to IASC & Arctic Community Meetings and Workshops (11-15 April, 2027). We would like to invite everyone to consider making use of ASSW2027 as a forum where organizations, collaborative research projects and teams could come together. ASSW2027 will take place in a hybrid format, with each session offering the option of in-person only, hybrid, or online meeting only. Please submit your science community meetings and workshops proposal by using the form below.

Call for Abstracts of ISAR-9

We are now accepting abstracts for oral and poster presentations of ISAR-9, which will be held from 17 to 20 April 2027. There will be 12 Regular Sessions and 41 Special Sessions. We would invite you to submit abstracts to the sessions. Abstracts should be submitted via the symposium website. Please confirm the ISAR-9 Call for Abstracts for details on submission policy and lists of Regular and Special sessions.

Preliminary Information for Planning Your Trip

Prior to the registration opening in late November, we are pleased to provide you with some preliminary information to help your trip planning.

  • ASSW2027 Hotels Information: When you register for ASSW2027, a list of hotels near the Hakodate venue that are available to book will be provided. This will allow you to choose one that meets your requirements.
  • Request of Visa Invitation Letter: In addition, please kindly note that we plan to request participants who need a visa invitation letter will be required to submit their request via the “Visa Invitation Request Form” during the ASSW2027 registration process in late November. We recommend that you check the visa information posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website before requesting an invitation letter.
