Concept of the conference
Finnish initiative for Arctic environmental co-operation resulted in the so-called Rovaniemi Process and the adoption of the Arctic Environmental Protection Strategy, signed in Rovaniemi in 1991. The Rovaniemi Process contributed to peace and stability in the region and finally led into the establishment of the Arctic Council.
The success of Rovaniemi Process has inspired the City of Rovaniemi and the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland to organize a series of conferences, with the first one to take place in Rovaniemi, on 2-4 December 2013. The conference programme will include keynote speeches, several scientific sessions and special Arctic Cities Panel.
