APECS is happy to announce that Sarah Strand will be APECS' Executive Director at the new host institution at the University of Tromsø, starting 1 February 2022.
Sarah Strand joins APECS and the International Directorate after more than seven years living in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. From 2016 to 2020, she served as Executive Director of the International Permafrost Association. While she is finalizing her PhD on the topic of permafrost thermal dynamics at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) and the University of Oslo, she is eager to contribute to the international polar science community more broadly in her new role as Executive Director of APECS.
Sarah is dedicated to connecting and supporting early career scientists and has worked extensively with initiatives for PhDs and postdocs at UNIS. She is passionate about science communication and policy, and is excited about APECS’ activities in these areas. Furthermore, she is motivated to work with the leadership and direct APECS in its continual efforts of building the most diverse and vibrant organization possible.
In January, Sarah and Josefine and her team are working closely together towards a smooth transition of the Directorate. Sarah will be APECS Executive Director starting 1 February 2022
