The Emerging Leaders program 2022 evolves around the theme of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for sustainable development. Selected speakers and mentors will present current issues of the Ocean Decade from an arctic perspective. The participants will be challenged to relate challenges outlined by the Ocean Decade to their own local and sectoral context and develop innovative ideas on how to address these through teamwork and creative thinking. 

The event is planned as a physical meeting in Norway from 28.01.-03.02.2022, following national and local Covid-19 regulations. 

Application Criteria: 

The Emerging Leaders program accepts young professionals, PhDs and Post-docs affiliated with businesses, public management or institutes from the academic, industry or policy sector. Candidates with a technological focus relevant to Emerging Leaders 2022 are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates must be no older than 35 years of age (born 1986 or later). Applications for the Emerging Leaders program 2022 must contain the following: 

• A letter of motivation describing the candidate’s field of interest, why the candidate wants to participate in Emerging Leaders 2022 and which expectations the candidate has for their participation in the program. Letters should be no longer than one page, font size 12. 

• CV (including the candidate’s date of birth), max 2 pages. 

• A letter of support signed by the candidate's superior/supervisor and administrative responsible.

Participation Costs & Funding: 

The cost for joining the Emerging Leaders program i.e. from arriving in Bodø on 28th January 2022, hotels, food and travel with Hurtigruta Bodø-Tromsø, and attending the Arctic Frontiers Tuesday 1st until Thursday 3rd February 2022 is 35 000 NOK ex VAT. Please note that travel to Bodø and from Tromsø is not included in this sum. 

PhDs and Post-docs enrolled at Norwegian research institutes or in management or businesses, may be considered for a scholarship from the Norwegian Research Council. If you wish to apply for this funding, please make a note in your application. If successful, the scholarship will cover the cost for participating in the program (except travel to Bodø and from Tromsø). For all other applicants, their institute/organization must cover all expenses
