APECS is inviting you to participate in a survey "Climate and Polar research - the role of travel", developed by the APECS Project Group “CO2 Reduction in Arctic Science”. The survey gathers experiences and opinions regarding sustainable research practices, particularly, concerning travel and responses will be used to inform the creation of a pocket guide on the same topic.
A drastic reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (net zero by 2050) is needed in order to avoid irreversible and dangerous changes to our climate and its adverse effects on our entire planet. As polar (and alpine) researchers we work in one of the world's most fragile ecosystems, and many of us have borne witness to drastic change in just the past few years. Yet, when it comes to reducing emissions, we, as researchers, often find ourselves in the middle: While our scientific contributions can lead to a better understanding of climate change and inform political action, the act of our research has environmental impacts of its own.
Deadline for completing the survey is 31 of August 2021.
