Arctic Plastics extended deadlineThe Government of Iceland is pleased to announce a Call for Abstracts for Atlantic Plastics 2026 – Third International Symposium on Marine Plastic Pollution: Arctic to the Antarctic, taking place on 20–22 October 2026 at Harpa, Reykjavík Concert Hall and Conference Center, Iceland.

From the Arctic to the Antarctic, plastic pollution has emerged as a defining transboundary challenge across the world’s ocean basins, particularly within the Atlantic and its connected Arctic waters. Plastics disperse through complex physical, chemical, and biological processes, impacting ecosystems, biodiversity, food webs, and human health. At the same time, coastal and Indigenous communities face growing social, cultural, and economic pressures as fisheries, tourism, and subsistence practices are increasingly affected by plastic pollution.

Atlantic Plastics 2026 will convene international experts, policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders to advance cutting-edge science, technology, and policy solutions addressing the full continuum of the plastic problem.

Conference Themes

Abstract submissions are invited under the following themes:

  1. Innovative plastic pollution monitoring and assessment across multi-scales
  2. Modelling sources, pathways, and fate of plastics in the environment
  3. Assessing impacts of plastic pollution on ecosystems and human health
  4. Circular economy, innovation, and industry solutions
  5. Mitigation, management, and restoration
  6. Science–policy interface and capacity building

Under these themes, presenters may apply for platform or poster presentations.

Researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders working on marine plastic pollution from the Arctic to the Antarctic are encouraged to submit abstracts and contribute to this international exchange.

Further information on abstract submission guidelines, deadlines, and registration is available on the conference website.
