Arctic Plastics extended deadlineThe Government of Iceland, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, with the support of the Nordic Council of Ministers and in partnership with Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and the Centre for the Ocean and the Arctic is hosting a Second International Symposium on Plastics in the Arctic and Sub-Arctic Region in collaboration with ICES, the OSPAR Commission, GRID Arendal, UArctic , UNESCO, the Wilson Center, UNEP and IASC. The aim is to gather scientific, Indigenous, and local knowledge on plastic pollution and discuss ways and means to reduce the impact of plastics on Arctic ecosystems.

The deadline for abstract submissions for participation in the upcoming International Symposium on Plastic Pollution in the Arctic and Sub-Arctic Regions has been extended to the 1st of June 2023.

If you have a subject, topic or finding in mind which you believe would benefit both the conference and the fight against plastic pollution, we urge you to submit an abstract to participate in this important dialogue. 

We especially encourage submissions with a focus on: 

  • Theme 2 on Methodological development to determine macro, micro and nano plastics.
  • Theme 4 on Impacts of marine litter in the Arctic (environmental, economic, and social). 
  • Theme 5 on Arctic challenges and solutions for improved waste management.
