Karthaus Summerschool on Ice Sheets and Glaciers in the Climate System
The Karthaus Summer School on Ice Sheets and Glaciers in the Climate System is a 10-day internationalcourse that will take place in the South Tirolian town Karthaus in May 2024. It has place for 36 studentsand provides them with a thorough introduction into the role of glaciers in our climate system, with a focuson the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets, and the interactions and feedbacks that take place betweenthem and the atmosphere, ocean, and land surface. The course is intended for PhD candidates that workin glaciology-related climate projects from all over the world. Although the course is anchored incontinuum-mechanics and numerical modeling, it also provides lectures on ice-atmosphere interaction, climate of ice sheets and glaciers, glacier hydrology, ice-ocean interactions, geomorphology, andgeodynamics. The course includes an excursion to a nearby rock glacier and a workshop on equality, diversity, inclusion in geosciences. Another important part of the course is networking and communitybuilding, for participants and teachers.
