Third International MOSAiC Science Conference

Project Description

The Third International MOSAiC Science Conference will be organized in Potsdam, Germany, from 26 February to 1 March 2024. It will be hosted by the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). We expect about 300 participants. In this project we request support for Early Career Scientists (ECS) to attend the conference. The Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) was an international, interdisciplinary Arctic scientific expedition that drifted across the central Arctic from autumn 2019 to autumn 2020. The ultimative goal of the current data analysis and modeling is a better understanding of the coupled Arctic climate system. Scientific focus of the conference will be on the physico-chemical atmosphere-ice-ocean system processes, particularly including interdisciplinary research (e.g., sea ice ecology and biogeochemistry) and collaborative themes (e.g., freshwater lens, winter heat budgets, single column modeling, advancing Arctic system modelling). Conference objectives are to foster cross-cutting scientific analysis, address issues of spatiotemporal scaling of information, and promote advancement of modeling and predictive capabilities. This conference will be open for a broad community and intensifies the connection of the MOSAiC science community with the general Arctic research community through the manifold use of the data.
