Arctic Circle Assembly

The 2026 Arctic Circle Assembly will take place from 8–10 October 2026 at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavík, Iceland.

One of the world’s largest annual forums dedicated to Arctic affairs, the Assembly convenes political leaders, Indigenous representatives, scientists, experts, businesses, organisations and young people from across the Arctic and the wider international community. The programme will address climate change, scientific cooperation, Indigenous leadership, security and geopolitics, sustainable development, energy, shipping, ocean governance, health and the future of northern communities.

IASC contribution

As part of its preparations for the Fifth International Polar Year 2032–33, IASC is supporting the session “Co-Designing an International Polar Year Arctic Access Programme,” hosted by INTERACT on 9 October.

This IASC-funded cross-cutting initiative is supported by all five IASC Working Groups: Atmosphere, Cryosphere, Marine, Social & Human, and Terrestrial. The session will help shape a coordinated programme giving researchers access to terrestrial research stations, polar vessels and data infrastructure during the International Polar Year. It will bring together research organisations, early-career researchers and Indigenous representatives to consider scientific priorities, governance, coordination and equitable access.

Through this contribution, IASC is helping translate international Arctic research priorities into the infrastructure and partnerships required for collaborative, interdisciplinary and inclusive science.
