IASC is an Affiliate Member of the International Science Council (ISC). The ISC was created in 2018 as the result of a merger between the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC). It is the only international non-governmental organization bringing together the natural and social sciences and the largest global science organization of its type. The vision of the Council is to advance science as a global public good. Scientific knowledge, data and expertise must be universally accessible and its benefits universally shared. The practice of science must be inclusive and equitable, also in opportunities for scientific education and capacity development.
As an associate of the ISC, IASC promotes Arctic and (together with SCAR, IASSA, and others) polar science in the ISC and advises, supports, and cooperates on activities that are of importance to the whole of the polar science community. The International Polar Year 2007-2008 was an excellent example of cooperation with the ISC (then, ICSU).
