IASC recognizes that the next generation of Arctic researchers will be faced with increasingly critical challenges due to the impacts of climate change on the region and their global significance. The Committee therefore believes that it is of great importance to foster young researchers and promoting and involving early career researchers is an integral part of the IASC mission. In particular IASC is:
- striving for representation of early career researchers in all bodies of the organization;
- providing endorsement, support and mentorship;
- offering travel grants for early career scientists to participate in IASC activities.
To support early career researchers, IASC is closely cooperating with the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS). Since 2014 IASC offers a Fellowship Program, which is tailored towards involving early career researchers in the activities of the IASC Working Groups.
